PsychMed provides a one-off free session with a psychologist to check-in on how much, if at all, alcohol or drug use is impacting on your health and your life. These sessions are non-judgmental and designed by the World Health Organization to help people improve their lives through better mental, physical, social, financial and occupational health.

The session will comprise the psychologist asking you a set of questions (the Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test) to determine a risk score for each substance you may have used. The psychologist will give you feedback about your measure of risk and provide information about recommended level of treatment, which may vary from none required or basic, brief information only through to an intensive structured program supported by individual therapy.

If you do want more information or assistance, then the psychologist can point you in the right direction. For example, you may decide you want further one-on-one therapy sessions, and/or you may feel that attending a self-help group for your alcohol or drug use will be helpful.
